Distance Learning
Gauden is a California private, post-secondary, distance learning institution.
For many years, distance learning via online universities and colleges has been the fastest growing sector of higher education in the United States. The old model of bricks-and-mortar, physical places of gathering for learning has given way to a new model, supported by advances in telecommunications. At Gauden we are riding that wave, putting our energy into human communication and connections over distances, rather than upkeep of a physical campus.
Distance learning at Gauden is:
- Flexible: Study and fit course work into your schedule for maximum convenience and efficiency.
- Supportive of Your Career: Keep your full or part-time job while getting the education you want. No need to resign or take a leave of absence.
- Financially Advantageous & Cost-Effective: Continue earning while you study and save on the cost of relocation or commuting expenses with minimal travel costs for live courses.
- Accessible from Anywhere with Telephone & Internet Access: Learn from teachers and with peers while living at home anywhere in the world
- Expansive: Expand your horizons by interacting with our diverse community while remaining in the comfort of your existing personal, cultural, and social community
- Independent & Interactive: Although specific programs vary in their requirements, Gaudens well-designed distance learning approach blends four components:
- Independent Self-Study
Much of the Gauden curriculum is designed as self-study work (through books, CDs, meditative reflection) allowing students to organize their time and manage their work flow to meet the dynamic needs of daily life. Significant time is allocated for introspective reflection to deepen awareness and allow thorough integration of learning.
- One-to-One Student/Faculty Interaction
Gauden believes in the importance of giving students the ability to communicate regularly with faculty as part of the curriculum. Phone conferences are an opportunity for students to ask questions and receive guidance while providing faculty the chance to get to know the student individually and assess their growth and development. This relationship building is a key part of the Gauden experience and differentiates Gauden from programs with less personal, warm contact.
- Peer-to-Peer Interactions
Gaudens learning environment is structured to enable students to benefit from opportunities to exchange ideas, offer support, and share experiences with each other. Phone conferences and online forums help students connect and interact with the Gauden community.
- Live In-Person Classes and Gatherings
In-person classes offer students the opportunity to meet others and enjoy the warm human connection that, for all their amazing virtues, long-distance connections cannot offer. These classes enable the University to offer material that is best learned through in-person interactions and experiences.
